Florida 4-H Teen CERT

We just finished the first Teen CERT training in the state of Florida. CERT is Community Emergency Response Team. Once again, 4-H is leading the way in Florida for teens to become vital members of their communities. Our training included the Santa Rosa County 4-H Ambassadors and Escambia County Leadership Clubs, along with a few willing adults.

We are trained to act as first responders in the event of a natural or man made disaster until professional rescuers arrive on the scene. We will be able to assist the traditional Search and Rescue teams when needed and will remain available to mobilize when needed.

Training includes things like: Fire Safety, disaster Medical, Incident Command System, Disaster Psychology, Search and Rescue. It is an intense training that requires a commitment on your part, both during and after. But the knowledge you will gain is amazing.

We encourage all 4-H youth to contact the Emergency Operation Center in their county to find out more about Teen CERT. The whole concept of CERT is fairly new and the concept of Teen CERT is completely new in the state of Florida. Let's get behind this idea and show Florida just how much a group of highly motivated 4-Hers can accomplish.

The Santa Rosa County EOC is amazingly supportive of youth in our community. If you have questions before approaching your local EOC, comment or email florida4hdistrict1@yahoo.com
